Apprenticeship Training opportunities set to increase with Impulse Leisure
Impulse Leisure, providers of community leisure facilities within the Thurrock area are set to increase the number of Apprenticeship Training opportunities it currently has to offer.

Fran Burch, Group Training Co-ordinator explained “During the last 2 years we have worked very closely with partner organisations such as Thurrock Youth and Connexion Services and SEEVIC College in order to offer 10 individuals a chance to undertake and successfully complete an NVQ Level 2 Apprenticeship in areas such as Lifeguarding, Coaching e.g. Swimming Teaching, and Business Administration. An additional testament to the programme’s successful outcomes is that many of these individuals have gone on to successfully secure permanent positions within their chosen field, on completion of the apprentice programme”.

“Our continuing commitment to the Apprenticeship Training programme will see the number of Lifeguarding Apprenticeship vacancies that we currently offer expand from 3 to 12. We have chosen to continue and expand the programme because as a Company, we fully appreciate the enormous benefits that Apprenticeship schemes can bring and it is fantastic that we are in a position to offer so many new positions, particularly in the current economic climate”.

Katy Quinn, Executive Director, Skills and Business Development said “SEEVIC College are delighted to work so closely with Impulse Leisure in providing young people with opportunities to continue learning as well as gaining invaluable knowledge and experience of the work place“

Kate Boran, NEET Manager, of Thurrock Youth and Connexions explained that 'Youth and Connexions' also play a major role in recruiting the apprentices. Youth and Connexions Employer Engagement Personal Advisers, together with Job Coaches, contact, and initially interview the young people who have expressed an interest in the positions. Successful candidates within Youth and Connexions are then forwarded to Impulse Leisure for further consideration. During the course of the apprenticeship, in addition to the continued support from Impulse Leisure, a Youth and Connexions Personal Adviser mentors the young person, to help ensure they receive full support, advice and guidance, which contributes greatly to increasing the retention rates. This service is free and available to all Thurrock employers interested in taking on an Apprentice.
