Background History

Impulse Leisure the parent company manages Adur Community Leisure (ACL) and Thurrock Community Leisure (TCL) which comprises of 5 leisure centres, a community pool, a golf & country club and an entertainments hall .

Impulse Leisure is a non-profit distributing organisation (NPDO), a charitable company providing leisure and recreation facilities to the local community.

Impulse Leisure Belhus Park, Blackshots, Corringham, Lancing Manor and Southwick are leisure centres featuring, between them swimming pools, fitness gymnasiums, aerobic studios, sunbeds, creche, driving range, Kinesis Studio, and cafeteria. Belhus Park Golf & Country Club is an 18 hole, par 69 golf course including a bar and restaurant and golf shop. Wadurs is a community pool offering swimming lessons and classes. Finally, the Civic Hall is an entertainment hall suitable for music concerts, shows as well as private hire for weddings, parties etc.

Whilst providing facilities for the local community on a pay and use basis, membership for use across all leisure centres and the golf & country club is available. There are options for annual memberships which include discounted rates for disabled, OAP's, concessions and job seekers. These memberships allow users to receive discounts on entrance prices each time they visit. In addition, monthly memberships are available providing unlimited use of the majority of facilties.

There are approximately 426 staff across all the facilities. Each leisure centre has in place an Leisure Manager who oversees the running of the centre working with the Duty Officers who operationally are in charge of the leisure staff - leisure attendants, gym instructors and cleaners. The Civic Hall is managed in a very similar style with Duty Officers managing technical assistants. Management and administration (including personnel and payroll functions) for all of Impulse Leisure is undertaken from the registered Head Office at Blackshots.

There are two Boards of Trustees (11 Volunteer Directors per board) for ACL and TCL who steer Impulse Leisure in pursuit of our Mission and make sure we comply with the rules of operation that govern charitable companies.
