Impulse Leisure provides valuable experience for Sport & Exercise Science Students
Community-focused charitable Leisure Trust, Impulse Leisure, has partnered with USP College to offer a week-long experiential learning programme for Year 1 and 2 Sport and Exercise Science students as part of their academic journey.
This Thurrock partnership has paid dividends for local students, giving them the opportunity to gain practical insights into their chosen career paths and explore various aspects of the fitness and leisure industry.
Impulse Leisure operates multiple leisure facilities in Thurrock, and during their time at these sites, the students engaged in a structured week of shadowing experienced Fitness Instructors during fitness inductions and gym floor classes. This first-hand experience provided them with a deeper understanding of the day-to-day responsibilities and challenges faced by fitness professionals.
Moreover, the students delved into fundamental health improvement theories, covering topics such as blood pressure, its effects, long-term consequences, and its relation to body fat and visceral fat. This theoretical knowledge, combined with practical observations, allowed them to grasp the importance of promoting a healthy lifestyle and the significance of exercise in achieving overall well-being.
One of the highlights of their experience was supporting the Health Improvement team, where they actively contributed to Cancer Rehab, Cardiac Rehab, and Stroke Rehab programmes. By working with individuals suffering from the effects of high blood pressure and excessive body fat around the abdomen, the students witnessed the impact of specialised fitness interventions on improving lives and promoting recovery.
Furthermore, the students participated in group exercise classes, including Pilates and Yoga, which provided them with the opportunity to experience coaching larger groups. They also recognised the importance of strength and flexibility in designing effective fitness routines for diverse populations.
In response to this enriching collaboration, Veronica Lane, Employment Skills Advisor of USP College, expressed appreciation to Impulse Leisure: "Thank you for allowing our students to work their hours for their course at your business during their block weeks this academic term. These weeks are a period of great learning and valuable experience for our students, and hopefully, they have added value to your workplace."
She added, "Without your support, guidance, and dedication, our students would not have had the opportunity to gain real-world experience within their chosen career path. We are grateful for the commitment of your team, who actively supported and mentored our students during their time at Impulse Leisure."
As a community-focused Leisure Trust and registered charity, Impulse Leisure plays a pivotal role in providing accessible and first-class fitness and leisure facilities for all. Our dedication to fostering the growth and development of students aligns perfectly with USP College's mission of preparing students for successful futures and we look forward to hosting more USP College students in the Future.
